Kronos HazMat Surveying Ltd.
Serving the Greater Victoria Area
In British Columbia, obtaining a hazardous building materials assessment prior to any renovation or demolition project is not only a responsible environmental practice—it’s a legal requirement under WorkSafeBC’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation. According to OHS Guidelines Part 20, any construction project, including renovations and demolitions, must assess for hazardous substances such as asbestos, lead, silica, and mold before work begins. These materials, if disturbed without proper identification and abatement, pose serious health risks to yourself, workers or family members.

Frequently Asked Questions
At the inception of a project, such as a large renovation or prior to a building demolition, all suspect hazardous building materials have to be identified before any work can start.
The newly discovered materials should not be disturbed. Until the materials have been assessed by a Qualified Person, renovations should be halted. Do not hesitate to contact me to obtain samples.
The survey encompasses the scope of the renovation, meaning a room by room assessment of the renovation area will be surveyed. Small samples of materials such as drywall or paints will be obtained for analysis. Every effort will be made for samples to be taken in discreet areas to minimize unsightly sampling events. The material will be patched up for safety only and not aesthetics.
